Caretta caretta has been consistently selected on the basis of the high volume (globally threatened) criterion since the 2006 EU Analysis as a result of the ongoing importation of wild-sourced live eggs for reintroduction purposes.
In 2010, 1500 wild-sourced live eggs were imported by Spain directly from Cape Verde for the purpose of reintroduction into the wild. Spain also reported the import of 54 scientific specimens directly from Cuba, while Germany reported the import of one skull directly from Madagascar for scientific purposes.
